Happy 4th of July Weekend! Another summer holiday is yet upon us and instead of thinking that the summer is halfway over, I like to think it is now just getting started! This Independence Day we have a lot to celebrate and to be thankful for and it's often a time celebrated with backyard BBQs, fireworks, parades, pool parties, sandcastles and much more. If you happen to be staying local, consider starting your holiday weekend by giving thanks to our Lord and join us tonight at 7:00 PM for our First Friday Eucharistic Holy Hour. If you have not yet joined us for one of our Frist Friday's, I would encourage you to considering coming tonight. It truly is a very moving experience to be in the presence of our Eucharist Lord along with guided prayer, uplifting music, and time for personal reflection. When you return home, your heart will be filled with grace and your mind will be filled with peace. So don't forget to grab an early dinner in town and then walk on down to St. Pat's and join us!

As we mark the beginning of a new month, did you know that each of the 12 months of the year has a devotional theme in the Catholic Church? Well, it certainly does and the beauty of our faith is that it continues to grow often by learning something new. During the month of July we honor the Precious Blood of Jesus. The Catholic Church also honors a number of saints during the month of July to include St. Maria Goretti, St. Benedict, St. Kateri Tekakwitha, St. Mary Magdalene and many more. There is so much we can learn from all the saints! As such, beginning today and each week in July, you will find a reflection on and a prayer to one of the amazing saints we honor this month right here in Flocknote. Read on to learn about St. Maria Goretti whose feast day we celebrate on July 6.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The words “thank you” seem insufficient to express just how grateful I am to the people of Saint Patrick Church. I am filled with gratitude for your prayers of support during the seven years of diaconal formation. I am humbled that you joined me, Karin, Dominic, and Isabel at the ordination - whether in person, via livestream, or in the Spirit. The gifts that so many have given are also very much appreciated. (I promise that they will be put to good use!) Finally, I am overjoyed that Archbishop Perez assigned me to Saint Patrick’s, the little church with a big heart in the Mushroom Capital of the World.

On a more somber note, I also wanted to let everyone know that I have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The bad news: It’s cancer. The good news: It was caught early and the prognosis for treatment is good. Karin and I are still deciding on what the next step will be. The doctor says that I am young (though my kids would disagree) and otherwise healthy, which are factors for a positive outcome. It is strange knowing that there is cancer in my body even though I have no symptoms or discomfort of any kind. It was caught through routine PSA (prostate-specific antigen) monitoring, which led to an MRI, which led to a needle biopsy. If not
for my physician ordering PSA testing as part of an annual physical, this cancer would still be undetected.

Brothers, I implore you: Get your PSA checked.

Please continue to pray for me and my family for two specific intentions. First, that I can be a good and faithful servant of God’s Church. Second, for healing and perseverance as my family navigates this health situation.

Dear Parishioners,

This week will be my last week as Director of Religious Education for our parish. I take me leave on July 8 and will be replaced by Mrs. Maria Miller, a person familiar to many. I would like to take this moment to say thank you for the opportunity to guide your children in the Catholic faith for many years. I have loved spending time with them and will always cherish the memories. They are such sweet special kids. You should be proud of them! I am excited to move into the next stage of my life but don't be surprised if one day you find me substituting in your child's classroom. It has been a privilege to know all of you and I pray that God, His Angels, and His Saints watch over you.

St. Maria Goretti is unique in that she is the youngest canonized saint in the Church. She died tragically on July 6, 1902, at the age of eleven. Though her time on earth was brief, her compelling story serves as a vivid example of faith and the power of forgiveness.

Born in 1890, Maria warded off a man who attempted to rape her at the age of 11, concerned more for the purity and state of her victimizer's soul. Stabbed fourteen times, Maria died the next day, forgiving her attacker, Alessandro Serenelli.

Alessandro experienced a conversion to Christ during his 30-year prison sentence and was present in Rome when Maria was canonized a saint. Hesaid, "I hope for salvation, since I have a saint in heaven praying for me."

Saint Maria Goretti who, strengthened by God’s grace,
did not hesitate, even at a young age, to shed your blood and sacrifice life itself

For the past several months, a St. Patrick Men's Group of Young Men and Dads have been meeting weekly to refocus on Jesus and take a moment of rest away from the confusing world. We meet each Thursday Morning from 6:30 AM - 7:30 AM in the St. Joseph Room (1st floor of our former school) exploring the Sunday Scripture for the weekend ahead while reflecting together on the joys and challenges facing men striving to live the faith. Clothing may be gently used but must be in wearable condition (no tears, stains, etc) or may be new. Please donate items only from the above list and clothing may be for men, women, and children.

Parishioners are welcome to drop off items on SUNDAY MORNINGS to the vestibule of the former school building located on the corner of Meredith & Cypress Streets. This week we welcome Maria Miller to the Parish Staff as Director of Religious Education. Please join us in welcoming her aboard as we bid a fond farewell to Marianne Kane. We kindly ask for your prayers for both of these women as they begin their new life ventures.

We welcome all children of our parish from Kindergarten to 7th Grade. Classes are held on Sunday mornings or Monday afternoons. Our religious education program begins in September and includes preparation for the reception of the Sacraments which include Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation. We ask that all new students provide a copy of their Baptismal Certificate. It's never too late to start!

By virtue of our Baptism, we are called to carry out the ministries of Christ in our world today. As Catholics we are called to live out our faith in our families and in our community. Our parish offers may opportunities for getting involved and making a difference in the lives of those around us especially the young children of our parish. Today we are reaching out to those who are 18 and older to consider becoming a catechist and teaching the children about the beliefs of the Catholic Church and our long history of Catholic social teaching. We are in need of catechists for Sunday classes beginning in September for the following grades: 1, 3, 5, 6, and 7th. Won't you join us?
